David Cherry
Senior Advisor
David Cherry is the Senior Advisor at Stewardship Realty, where he leverages his expertise in community development and organizational leadership to help faith communities maximize the impact of their property assets, further their mission, and better serve their congregations.
David is also the Founder of the All Stars Project (ASP) of Chicago, where he advances the organization’s voice on public policy issues and develops strategies for creative engagement on poverty, social justice, violence, and other social challenges affecting impoverished youth and their communities. Since launching ASP Chicago in 2007, he has drawn on his 35-year history as a highly skilled community organizer to implement two of the ASP’s leading programs: the All Stars Talent Show Network and the Development School for Youth. He has been instrumental in building ASP’s signature partnership between business professionals and inner-city youth, which is central to the organization’s growth.
In addition to his work with ASP and Stewardship Realty, David serves as President of the Leaders Network, an organization of faith and community leaders advocating for civil rights and social justice. He also serves on the board of Collaboraction, a social theatre organization, and is a member of the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities at Lurie Children’s Hospital.
Born in Harlem and raised in the South Bronx near the infamous Charlotte Street neighborhood, David’s early life experiences shaped his lifelong commitment to addressing the systemic issues facing America’s inner cities.
